US stops supplying weapons to NATO allies for Ukraine

The temporary shutdown of the US government has frozen the supply of weapons to NATO allies, including those intended for further transfer to Ukraine.

Axios portal writes about this, citing sources in the State Department, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.

According to the State Department, the supply of $5 billion worth of American weapons has been delayed. The suspension affected the supply of AMRAAM air-to-air missiles, Aegis missile defense systems, and HIMARS multiple launch rocket systems, which were to be delivered to Denmark, Croatia, and Poland.

The reason for the freeze was that almost three-quarters of the State Department’s employees involved in organizing the supply of weapons were sent on unpaid leave due to the shutdown, the publication said.

Officially, the US government shut down on October 1. The Senate failed to agree on a short-term government funding bill 14 times in a row. Thus, a shutdown began in the United States – the 22nd in the country’s history and the 4th under President Donald Trump.

As a result, hundreds of thousands of civil servants were left without salaries, and approximately one and a half million received incomplete salaries.
