Russian and US Presidents Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump will meet on American territory, as the International Criminal Court (ICC) does not have jurisdiction there.
This was reported by The Washington Post, according to "Komersant Ukrainian".
American journalists recalled that in preparation for the meeting between Trump and Putin, several options for the meeting were being worked out. Thus, Putin publicly said that the talks could be held in the United Arab Emirates. At the same time, the possibility of a meeting between the two leaders in Italy was rejected because the Russian leader could be arrested there under an ICC warrant, the publication notes.
“The United States is not a party to the court, so a meeting in Alaska avoids this problem,” WP writes.
It is emphasized that the choice of Alaska as a meeting place is explained by the proximity of this state to Russia.
“It seems quite logical that our delegation should simply fly through the Bering Strait,” said Putin’s adviser Yuri Ushakov.
on August 15, Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump will hold talks in Alaska, the first meeting between the Russian and US presidents on American soil since 1988. The main topic is peace in Ukraine.
