The European Union plans to publish recommendations to tighten the visa regime for citizens of Russia and other hostile countries at the end of December.
This was reported by Politico with reference to a representative of the European Commission, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.
According to the publication, the document will not establish binding rules, but will offer EU member states stricter criteria for issuing visas to Russians. The recommendations will partially focus on addressing security concerns.
Two diplomats from European countries bordering Russia told the newspaper that their governments had been urging Brussels to adopt such recommendations for years, as they were “long overdue.”
on September 9, the Italian news agency ANSA reported that the European Union may include additional restrictions on tourist visas for Russians in the 19th package of anti-Russian sanctions. According to European sources, the reason for the initiative was a significant number of Russian tourists who visited Greece, Italy and France this summer.
