Russian dictator Vladimir Putin has put forward a number of demands to end the war against Ukraine during a meeting with US President Donald Trump in Alaska. The demands include not only territorial concessions.
This was reported by "Komersant Ukrainian" with reference to Reuters.
According to the publication’s sources, the information about Putin’s ultimatum is based on discussions between the leaders of Europe, the United States, and Ukraine, and is not complete. Reuters did reveal several of Putin’s demands in Alaska.
According to the newspaper, the dictator’s proposal excludes a ceasefire until a peace agreement is reached.
The Russian side demands that Ukraine completely withdraw its troops from Donetsk and Luhansk regions in exchange for Russia’s commitment to freeze the front lines in Kherson and Zaporizhzhia regions.
Russia is allegedly ready to return small areas in Sumy and Kharkiv regions.
Putin also wants to recognize the occupied Crimea as Russian. But it is unclear whether this means recognition by the United States alone or by all Western countries and Ukraine.
In addition, Russia wants at least some of the sanctions lifted. Moscow also wants Ukraine to refuse to join NATO. But, according to the newspaper, it seems that Putin was open to Ukraine receiving certain security guarantees.
Another demand of the Kremlin is to grant official status to the Russian language in some parts of Ukraine or throughout the country, as well as the right to operate freely for the Russian Orthodox Church (ROC).
On the night of August 16, Putin and Trump met in Alaska. The talks were in a three-on-three format and lasted about three hours.
