No electricity, no trams: Kyiv suspends electric transport on the right bank due to Russian strikes

13 January 17:05

In Kyiv, ground electric transport on the right bank of the city has been temporarily suspended. The reason is the consequences of another Russian shelling and the difficult situation in the power system, which has led to emergency power cuts in the capital.

This was reported by the Kyiv City State Administration, according to "Komersant Ukrainian".

What happened

After nighttime shelling, emergency power cuts were introduced in the city. Under these conditions, trams and trolleybuses cannot operate reliably, so their movement on the right bank of Kyiv has been suspended.

“Instead of ground electric transport, buses are being deployed on duplicate routes,” the Kyiv City State Administration reported.

How transport is operating now

To maintain transport connections, the city has organized duplicate bus routes. According to Kyivpastrans, buses have replaced trams and trolleybuses on 41 routes.

Bus service has been introduced, in particular, instead of trolleybuses on routes from the Minsky district, Svobody Avenue, the Botanical Garden, the Sports Palace, Lukyanivska, Nyvky, Sviatoshyn, Vydubychi, and other areas of the city. Buses also run instead of trams in Borshchahivka, Podil, Kontraktova Square, Vidradnyi Avenue, and in the direction of Pushcha-Vodytsia.

Kyivpastrans notes that detailed traffic schemes and schedules for duplicate routes are published on the company’s official website and on the Telegram channel “Traffic Changes.”

When will trams and trolleybuses return?

The city authorities emphasize that the resumption of ground electric transport is only possible after the power system has stabilized. The return of trams and trolleybuses will take place in stages, depending on the power situation.

The suspension of electric transport is yet another consequence of the massive attacks on the energy infrastructure. As of the morning of January 13, consumers remain without power not only in Kyiv, but also in the Kyiv, Odesa, Kharkiv, Dnipropetrovsk, Donetsk, Chernihiv, and Zaporizhzhia regions.

In the capital, about 500 buildings remain without heat, and some supermarkets in Kyiv and the region have temporarily suspended operations due to power outages.

City authorities are urging Kyiv residents to follow official announcements and be prepared for changes in public transport operations while the power system remains under pressure from enemy strikes.
