Svitolina returns to the top 20 in the world rankings

on March 31, the WTA Women’s Tennis Association published an updated version of the world rankings. The girls spent the past two weeks on the courts of the WTA 1000 tournament in Miami. Ukrainian tennis player Elina Svitolina has risen to the 18th place in the WTA rankings, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports

There are five changes in the top 10 of the world women’s ranking: Italian Jasmine Paolini, Chinese Qin Wen Zheng and Spanish Paula Badosa improved their places, while Mirra Andreeva and Kazakhstan’s Elena Rybakina lost their places.

Ukraine’s top seed Elina Svitolina moved up to 18th place, returning to the top 20 for the first time since last June.

Marta Kostiuk improved five positions and is now 24th. Diana Yastremska, Angelina Kalinina, Anastasia Soboleva and Lesya Tsurenko lost positions.

Daria Snihur, Yulia Starodubtseva and Katarina Zavatska have made slight improvements.

We should also note the progress of Oleksandra Oliynykova (32 places, now 265th), Veronika Podrez (35 places, now 462nd) and Elizaveta Kotlyar (179 places, now 676th).

Elina Svitolina first entered the top 20 of the world rankings on May 11, 2015, at the age of 20, and since then has left and returned to the top 20 six times, according to the Ukrainian Tennis Association. The longest period of the Ukrainian’s stay in the top 20 was 272 weeks from the end of August 2016 to the beginning of April 2022. It will be recalled that last season, Elina Svitolina took a break due to pregnancy and gave birth to a daughter in October 2022.

Since her return to the Tour, Elina Svitolina has been in the top 20 of the WTA rankings, rising to 17th place in March 2024. Last year, she was in the top 20 for 19 weeks, leaving it on June 9.

Apart from Elina Svitolina, only two Ukrainian tennis players have been ranked in the top 20 in the world singles rankings: Marta Kostiuk (highest ranking – No. 16) spent 38 weeks there, and Olena Bondarenko (highest ranking – No. 19) spent 3 weeks.

It is worth noting that among the current tennis players, Elina Svitolina ranks eighth in terms of the number of weeks spent in the top 20 of the WTA rankings:
