Trump only provokes Putin with his statements, – American political scientist on the extreme statements of the US leader

US President-elect Donald Trump has said that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is ready for “peace.” He said this in an interview with The Post after his trip to Paris, where the restored Notre Dame Cathedral was opened. What is behind this statement and what it means for Putin?
Trump shared the details of his meetings with world leaders, including French President Emmanuel Macron and Zelensky. It was his first trip abroad after winning the presidential election.
“This is something new. He wants a ceasefire. We didn’t discuss the details, but he thinks it’s time, and Putin should also realize that. When you lose 700,000 people, it’s a sign that it’s time to end the war,” Donald Trump
Trump’s position is not fully understood
Trump added that during his conversation with Zelenskyy, they discussed possible ways to end the war, which has been going on since 2022.
“I’m formulating a concept to end this senseless war,” Trump said.
American political strategist Jason Jay Smart in an exclusive commentary for
“Trump is not saying that Putin has lost. He is emphasizing that Russia is no longer able to fight effectively, and the situation in Syria also demonstrates this,” said Jason J. Smart
Smart also drew attention to the fact that Trump has not yet said whether he has had contact with Russian President Putin and whether he takes his position into account.
“What Trump is ready to do in Russia’s war against Ukraine will be shown by his inauguration,” the political strategist said.
At the same time, Jason J. Smart emphasized that Trump’s recent actions and statements demonstrate his support for Ukraine.
“The signs we see today, including the meeting with Zelenskyy and his yellow and blue suit, indicate his commitment to Ukraine. Moreover, with his statements, Trump is only provoking Putin and is definitely not on his side,” Smart emphasized.
The political scientist believes that this position may be a signal to the international community, which is waiting for concrete steps by the new American leader to resolve Russia’s war against Ukraine.
I should add that Trump mentioned his Truth Social post, in which he compared the situation in Ukraine to Russia’s intervention in Syria.
“At that time, Russia was unable to act actively because it was mired in this terrible war in Ukraine that should not have happened,” he explained.
Thus, Trump is positioning himself as a leader capable of ending the war in Ukraine, but the details of his “concept of peace” are not yet available. Whether Trump will be able to convince Putin to stop his aggression is an open question. However, his statements about the “unacceptability” of the war give hope that the Ukrainian position will be heard and supported.
