A strong magnetic storm has hit the Earth: what to do to make it easier to endure
30 September 07:30
Today, September 30, the Earth was hit by a powerful magnetic storm. This was reported by "Komersant Ukrainian" with reference to Meteoagent.
According to experts, the level of solar activity has reached a K-index of 5.2, which is a red level of danger corresponding to a strong magnetic storm.
The storm is caused by solar flares
Astronomers explain that powerful flares on the surface of the Sun, which occurred a few days ago, released streams of charged particles into space. They reached the Earth’s magnetic field, causing the current disturbance.
Such phenomena can last from several hours to two days, depending on the intensity of the solar wind.
Forecast for October 1
According to Meteoagent’s forecast, on October 1, the intensity of the disturbance will decrease to 3 points according to the K-index, which is a green level, i.e. a weak magnetic storm.
Note that the forecast is subject to change, as solar activity researchers update their data every three hours.

How magnetic storms affect humans
During strong magnetic storms, people may experience temporary deterioration in their health, especially those with cardiovascular disease, hypertension, or chronic fatigue.
Typical symptoms include
- headache, insomnia
- high blood pressure or weakness;
- irritability, mood changes.
Doctors advise on such days to
- avoid excessive stress and exertion;
- drink more water;
- avoid alcohol and strong coffee;
- ensure adequate sleep.
What is a magnetic storm?
A magnetic storm is a perturbation of the Earth’s magnetic field caused by powerful solar flares and plasma emissions. Its intensity is measured by the planetary K-index (from 0 to 9), where
- 0-2 – calm geomagnetic situation,
- 3-4 – moderate activity,
- 5 and above – a storm that can affect the operation of communications, satellites and even power systems.
