Unmanned aerial vehicle forces confirm damage to one of Russia’s largest refineries

The Unmanned Systems Forces said that on the night of September 14, operators of the 14th Separate Regiment of the BpAK, together with units of the Special Operations Forces, successfully struck the secondlargest oil refinery in Russia, Kirishinefteorgsintez, in the Leningrad region.

“As a result of the drone strike, a large-scale fire broke out on the territory of the enterprise, which is confirmed by NASA FIRMS satellite monitoring data. The results of the strike are being clarified,” the report says.

According to the report, the refinery is the main supplier of petroleum products for St. Petersburg, Leningrad, Novgorod and Pskov regions. Its refining capacity exceeds 20 million tons of oil per year, making it the second largest refinery in the country after the Omsk refinery.

What we know about the Kirishi Oil Refinery

Owned by Surgutneftegaz, the Kirishi Oil Refinery is one of the largest refineries in Russia with an annual capacity of over 20 million tons of crude oil, producing high-octane gasoline and other fuels.

The plant is located in Kirishi, Leningrad Region, and annually processes about 17.7 million tons of oil, which is 6.4% of the country’s total refining capacity. In addition, the refinery produces 2.3 million tons of gasoline (5.3% of the national output), 7.6% of diesel fuel, 16.3% of fuel oil and 3.4% of jet fuel.
