The water supply situation in the temporarily occupied Mariupol is rapidly deteriorating. According to the head of the Center for Occupation Studies, Petro Andriushchenko, the Mariupol reservoir continues to rapidly shrink, and the consequences of this could be catastrophic, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports
On his Telegram channel, Andriushchenko posted a video showing a significant drop in the water level in the reservoir. According to him, water intake is being carried out at such a pace that in the fall, residents may be forced to follow a strict water supply schedule – only once every three days.
“Shoaling is already so widespread that no amount of talk will stop it. Even at this rate of water intake, in the fall Mariupol will switch to a schedule of once every three days,” he emphasized.
Against this backdrop, Andriushchenko draws attention to the uneven distribution of water resources in the city. Despite the deficit in residential buildings, there is no shortage of water at car washes, street fountains and even at so-called mortgage construction sites. According to him, this shows the priorities of the occupation administration.
“It won’t be long before the catastrophe takes on unimaginable consequences. Donetsk is already going to be partially evacuated due to the threat of an epidemic. Mariupol is next in line,” Andriushchenko warns.
Earlier, experts have repeatedly warned of the risks of an environmental disaster due to the depletion of water resources in southeastern Ukraine, especially in the context of hostilities and infrastructure destruction.
The Mariupol reservoir is one of the key sources of water supply for the city, and its loss could have extremely negative consequences for tens of thousands of residents.
