The Telegraph: China blocks Trump’s initiatives to end the war in Ukraine – Beijing is interested in exhausting the US and Russia

China is obstructing Donald Trump’s attempts to stop the war in Ukraine, as the protracted conflict is draining both Russia and the United States, while strengthening Beijing’s position. This was reported by The Telegraph, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.

According to the newspaper, Trump is proposing new initiatives to end the war, including putting pressure on the Kremlin through increased tariffs, demonstrations of military force, and diplomatic channels. Even a personal meeting between Trump and Vladimir Putin is not ruled out.

However, according to The Telegraph, it is China that is blocking any peace efforts. Beijing is actively supplying Russia with dual-use components, such as microelectronics, drones, optics, and other technologies critical to military infrastructure. According to sources, part of the production of drones is organized in Russia with the participation of Chinese companies.

In June 2025, China became the main buyer of Russian oil, accounting for 47% of all crude oil exports from Russia. At the same time, Beijing is reducing its imports of liquefied natural gas from the United States, which indicates an increase in strategic cooperation with Moscow despite the sanctions pressure.

The Telegraph also reports that Beijing and Moscow are expanding military-industrial cooperation. russia has signed contracts with Chinese manufacturers to supply aircraft parts, engines for drones, and electronic navigation and guidance systems. Some Chinese companies set up joint ventures in Russia, circumventing sanctions through intermediary structures in third world countries.

The publication emphasizes that the strategic delay of the war is beneficial to Beijing. China hopes that by 2027, the likely date of readiness for action around Taiwan, Washington and Moscow will be significantly weakened, and the global balance of power will change in China’s favor.

What is the situation around Taiwan:

Spillover effects and internal threats

Activists in Taiwan have expressed concern that China is seeking to penetrate the island more deeply, not militarily, but through political manipulation, economic pressure, and disinformation. They accuse the main opposition KMT party of working with Beijing to undermine the sovereignty of the island’s democratic institutions.

Sanctions against Chinese recruiting companies

The Taiwanese government opened an investigation against 16 Chinese firms that, according to the investigation, illegally recruited Taiwanese engineers in the field of semiconductor technology. Police searched 70 locations and questioned about 120 people in an effort to protect the country’s critical industry.

These developments indicate that Taiwan continues to struggle with hybrid threats – economic, political, and technological – that are much more difficult to counter than overt military pressure.
