Trade without tariffs: Trump considers new initiative for Ukraine

US President Donald Trump is considering the possibility of creating a “duty-free zone” for Ukraine, which could serve as a catalyst for industrial development in the context of post-war reconstruction.

This was announced by US Special Representative Steve Witkoff during the Ukraine Breakfast event on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Davos, according to "Komersant Ukrainian", citing CityNews.

“The president talked about a duty-free zone with Ukraine, which, in my opinion, will change the rules of the game,” Witkoff said.

According to him, such a model would allow businesses to locate production in Ukraine and gain a competitive advantage in the US market due to the absence of customs duties.

Vitkoff also suggested that if this idea were implemented, industrial enterprises could move to Ukraine en masse.

“Imagine that you can outperform your competitors because you don’t pay customs duties when shipping goods to the US,” he said.

Vitkoff made these statements on the eve of his trip to Moscow, where the US administration is working on options for a peaceful settlement of the war between Russia and Ukraine.

After that, he plans to visit Abu Dhabi to participate in working groups, particularly on security and economic cooperation.
