Bohdan Zmiy, the inventor of the “Zmiy” demining machine, tragically dies

Bohdan Zmiy, a Ukrainian engineer, founder and CEO of Rovertech, one of the developers of the Zmiy robotic demining machine, tragically died while defending Ukraine and helping with his developments.
This was reported by the Sheptytsky City Council on Telegram, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.
Bohdan Zmiy made a significant contribution to strengthening Ukraine’s defense capabilities during the Russian-Ukrainian war. Under his leadership, innovative equipment was created that saved the lives of military engineers and civilians, helping to clear the liberated territories of explosive devices.
His developments have become a symbol of Ukrainian ingenuity, resilience, and will to live. May he be remembered as an engineer, a patriot, and a man who dedicated his talent to serving Ukraine.
According to the Ukrainian IT community DOU, Bohdan Zmiy founded Rovertech together with war veteran (since 2014) Vasyl Korenevsky in the summer of 2023. Before that, he owned a service station. Later, Borys Drozhak joined the team. The development of the first vehicle began with a request from military sappers. The company now specializes in the development and production of unmanned ground systems, including robotic platforms for demining (Zmiy), logistics (Zmiy Logistic), and firefighting. Rovertech is a resident of the Brave1 defense-tech cluster. Their Snake vehicle is certified according to NATO standards and has become part of the UNITED24 initiative. In 2025, the company was included in the Forbes NEXT 250 list.
