Former head of Ukrenergo Oleksiy Brecht dies tragically

Former head of NEC Ukrenergo Oleksiy Brecht died as a result of a tragic accident at an energy facility.
This was reported by MP Oleksiy Goncharenko on Telegram.
According to him, Brecht died from an electric shock at one of Ukrenergo’s substations.
“The cause of death was an electric shock at a Ukrenergo substation,” the post says.
Statement by the Ministry of Energy
The Ministry of Energy confirmed Brecht’s death.
“In the most difficult times for our state, when the enemy tried to plunge us into darkness, Oleksiy Brecht took on a tremendous responsibility. Heading NEC Ukrenergo as acting chairman of the board during the difficult period of 2024-2025, and later being responsible for the operation and restoration of the network, he did everything possible to maintain the system. His contribution to the stability of Ukraine’s integrated power system cannot be overestimated,” the statement said.
From September 5, 2024, to June 30, 2025, by decision of the supervisory board of NEC Ukrenergo, he was acting chairman of the company’s board.
Brecht began his professional career in 1999 at the Kyiv Pumped Storage Power Plant.
From 2011 to 2016, he worked at NPC Ukrenergo, where he was responsible for prospective development, European integration, and technical policy.
He received an engineering degree in Electrical Power Plants from the National Technical University “Kyiv Polytechnic Institute named after I. Sikorsky.”
