US President Donald Trump said that he will have a phone conversation with Russian dictator Vladimir Putin in the coming days. He said this during a meeting with Polish President Karol Nawrocki in Washington, D.C., "Komersant Ukrainian" reports
The American leader was asked about the next steps in relations with the Kremlin, as the deadline for his meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is coming to an end.
“I’ll talk to him (Putin – ed.) very soon and I’ll know roughly what we’re going to do. We have already taken very decisive measures, as you know… But I am planning this conversation in the coming days, and then we will see. I want to be clear about what’s going on,” Trump said.
The US president also announced shocking casualty figures last week, saying that 7,819 people were killed. According to him, Russia and Ukraine are losing soldiers in numbers that “no one has seen since World War II.”
Trump expressed hope that “there will be a good solution to end the war in Ukraine” and emphasized the need for diplomatic efforts to stop the bloodshed.
As a reminder, the day before, Trump said he was “very disappointed” with Putin, who had not yet agreed to meet with Zelenskyy.
Trump’s statements came after Russia has been massively shelling Ukraine with drones and missiles for several days in a row.
Earlier, Trump said that Kremlin head Vladimir Putin had “gone absolutely crazy.” He added that if he decides to take over the entirety of Ukraine, Russia will face collapse.
