U.S. President Donald Trump is considering renaming the Strait of Hormuz after establishing control over it.

Control over the strait is a priority

According to NYT sources, the issue of control over the Strait of Hormuz occupies a key place on Trump’s agenda. This topic, as noted, is being discussed in the context of strengthening U.S. influence in the region.

What Trump said

During a speech at a forum of Saudi investors, Trump publicly touched on the topic of renaming.

Trump’s direct quote: “They have to unblock the Trump Strait—that is, the Strait of Hormuz,” he said, adding: “Sorry, what a shame… Such a terrible mistake. Fake news will say: he slipped up—he said it by accident. No, there are no accidents with me, not too many.”

Reaction and discussion of the idea

The idea of renaming the strait had previously been discussed on social media among supporters of the U.S. president.

According to NYT sources, if the plans are implemented in the region, Trump may consider the names “American Strait” or “Trump Strait.”

Possible name options

Sources claim that if the goals set for the region are achieved, the U.S. administration may indeed revisit the issue of renaming this strategically important waterway.

We remind you that the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced the effective suspension of maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz and warned that ships attempting to pass through this area could face harsh retaliatory measures.
