Trump announces end to war between Iran and Israel

US President Donald Trump has announced that Israel and Iran have reached a ceasefire agreement, which, according to him, should put an end to the 12-day war in the Middle East. The head of the White House made the statement on his social network Truth Social, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports

“Peace has already begun”: Trump’s statement

In his post, Trump noted that the truce came into effect on the morning of June 24.

“The ceasefire has come into effect. Please do not violate it! Donald J. Trump, President of the United States!” he wrote.

The day before, Trump said that Iran and Israel had fully agreed on a truce. According to him, first Iran will cease fire, then Israel, and in a day “the world will celebrate the end of the 12-day war.”

“This is the end of the war. This is a great event for Israel and the world,” Trump said.

Later, Trump added that both countries allegedly “came to him and said: “Peace!””

“Israel and Iran came to me almost simultaneously and said: “Peace!”. I realized that the time had come,” he wrote.

According to him, “love, peace and prosperity” await both countries in the future.

“They have so much to gain, but they also have so much to lose if they stray from the righteous path,” Trump added.

Media confirms that the ceasefire is in effect, but there is confusion about the details

According to CNN, Iranian and Israeli media outlets began reporting that the ceasefire had come into effect at around noon ET, exactly as Trump had said in his initial statement.

Iran’s state-controlled Press TV reported:

“The ceasefire comes after four waves of Iranian attacks on Israeli-occupied territories.”

And the semi-official Iranian news agency Tasnim wrote on its Telegram channel that the ceasefire “has entered the implementation stage.”

Israeli media outlets, including Channel 12 and Ynet, also published headlines about the beginning of the ceasefire. At the same time, the Israeli government has not yet officially commented on the situation.

Earlier on Tuesday, Iranian state media said that the ceasefire was “imposed on the enemy” but did not specify the exact time of its beginning. This only increased the confusionabout the details and timing of the ceasefire, which is still ongoing.

However, earlier, official Tehran did not confirm the words of the American president. In particular, Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister Seyyed Abbas Araghchi said that there is currently no ceasefire agreement.

“However, provided that the Israeli regime stops its illegal aggression against the Iranian people no later than 4 a.m. Tehran time, we do not intend to continue our response. A final decision on the termination of our military operations will be made later,” the diplomat said.

What is happening in the Middle East?

The conflict between Israel and Iran erupted on the night of June 13, when Israel launched a military operation against Iran’s nuclear infrastructure called “Lion’s Uprising.” The strike targeted uranium enrichment facilities in Natanz, as well as representatives of the Iranian military command.

In response, Iran launched dozens of ballistic and cruise missiles at Israel, and since then the two sides have been exchanging strikes.

Then the United States intervened in the conflict: on the night of June 22, American forces struck three of Iran’s nuclear facilities in Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan. The air operation involved more than 125 aircraft, including B-2 Spirit bombers. U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hagel stated that the purpose of the strikes was not regime change, but pressure to return to negotiations.

However, on June 23, in the evening, Iran responded with a missile strike on the US Al-Udeid air base in Qatar, which is the largest US military base in the Middle East.
