Trump shortens ultimatum for Putin on peace in Ukraine to 10-12 days: “I already know the answer”

US President Donald Trump has announced his intention to significantly reduce the time limit for the ultimatum he previously gave Russia to conclude a peace agreement on Ukraine. If earlier it was 50 days, now Trump said that he would give the Kremlin only 10-12 days. This was reported by Ukrinform, citing Trump’s comments during a meeting with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer in Scotland, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.

“I will set a new deadline – about ten or twelve days from today. There’s no point in waiting,” Trump said.

He explained this decision by the lack of progress in attempts to force Russia to negotiate and harsh criticism of Vladimir Putin. In particular, the American leader said he was “very disappointed” with the Kremlin’s actions, in particular, the continuation of strikes against Ukraine despite diplomatic efforts.

“We thought that the negotiations were completed many times. And then Putin launches missiles at Kyiv again, kills a lot of people in a nursing home or somewhere else,” Trump said.

According to him, the explosions, civilian casualties, and Russia’s provocative behavior forced him to reconsider the original deadline:

“I’m going to reduce the 50-day deadline I gave him to a shorter number because I think I already know the answer,” the US president said.

On July 14, Trump first announced a 50-day ultimatum to Russia to force it to conclude a peace agreement. The deadline was supposed to be an attempt to force Moscow to end its war against Ukraine through diplomatic means. Now the American leader seems to be losing hope for a diplomatic breakthrough.

Earlier, Trump also announced his intention to promote a new agreement within NATO, which would include support for Ukraine and joint actions within the Alliance.
