Trump cuts funding for Commercial Space Administration: this will affect the safe movement program in space

The Trump administration has cut funding for the Department of Commerce’s Office of Commercial Space Policy. This has affected the program of safe movement in space.
This was reported by Bloomberg, according to "Komersant Ukrainian".
According to the publication, the budget was reduced from $65 million to $37 million. The Office of Commercial Space Policy used these funds in July. This leaves the office with a funding gap until the start of the new fiscal year in October.
The office has responsibilities such as promoting policy, licensing Earth observation satellites, and providing space security tools. The funding cuts will affect the office’s work to reduce the risk of collisions between satellites and other spacecraft in orbit.
The funding halt also jeopardizes the agency’s ability to contract with companies to support its space traffic safety program, called TraCSS. TraCSS, which began operations during Trump’s first term, aims to provide free and verified data on other objects in orbit to minimize the possibility of collisions.
The Office of Commercial Space Policy purchases data from companies to improve the TraCSS system. Without these contracts, satellite operators may be forced to pay for updated data directly from the companies.
This is not the first time President Trump has tried to cut funding for the Office of Commercial Space Policy. In March 2025, the Trump administration wanted to cut funding for the office to $10 million. This would have immediately terminated the TraCSS program. This drew criticism from both the media and the space industry in the United States.
