Trump did not mention Ukraine in his address to the nation

On Wednesday evening, December 17, US President Donald Trump delivered a Christmas address to the nation, in which he spoke about the achievements of his administration and sharply criticized his predecessor Joe Biden for rising consumer prices. The speech lasted less than 20 minutes and was broadcast at an accelerated pace, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports citing DW.
“Eleven months ago, I inherited chaos, and now I’m fixing it,” Trump said.
At the same time, the Republican president, who regularly claims that his merits are underestimated, presented almost no new initiatives to combat the high cost of living.
Trump spoke about migration, violent crime, and transgender rights, criticizing Biden, past trade deals, immigrants, and what he called a “corrupt system.”
Listing his own merits
At the same time, Trump praised his administration’s actions over the past year, including reducing the number of illegal border crossings and lowering prices for certain goods. He promised that the country would be stronger next year.
Among the few specific initiatives, Trump announced the payment of a so-called warrior dividend of $1,776 for 1.45 million US military personnel next week. In addition, he supported the Republican proposal for direct payments to citizens to offset health insurance costs instead of subsidies under the Affordable Care Act. This initiative has not yet received sufficient support in Congress.
“I want the money to go directly to people so that you can buy your own health insurance. The only losers are the insurance companies,” Trump said.
Not a word about Ukraine and Venezuela
The president devoted minimal time to foreign policy. He only mentioned the war in Gaza in passing and did not say a word about Russia’s war against Ukraine, although this week in Europe, one after another, leading politicians are meeting to discuss ways to resolve the war in Ukraine.
Trump also did not mention Venezuela. Meanwhile, the day before, the head of the White House sharply increased pressure on the authoritarian ruling President Nicolas Maduro and ordered a blockade of oil tankers off the coast of this country. He only briefly mentioned the fight against maritime drug smuggling, noting that it was developing successfully.
