US President Donald Trump has said that he is helping Ukraine in a war that should not have happened.

This was reported by RBC-Ukraine with reference to his response to journalists, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.

In particular, Trump was asked why he doesn’t help Ukraine in the same way he helps Israel.

“I am helping Ukraine. I help it a lot. This is a war that should never have happened, it should never have started,” he said.

Trump reiterated that Russia would not have unleashed a full-scale war in Ukraine if he had won the 2020 presidential election.

“If they (the elections – Ed.) hadn’t been rigged, there would be no war with Russia now. We would not have had inflation and a terrible exit from Afghanistan. I think it was the most shameful day in the history of our country (when American troops left Afghanistan – Ed.). There would have been no horror show with Israel and Hamas, and no recent confrontation with Iran,” he emphasized.

Trump also said he had a good conversation with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

“It was a great conversation,” he said, adding that he was disappointed by the dialog with Russian dictator Vladimir Putin.

To recap, Zelenskyy and Trump spoke on July 4, after Russia’s massive attack on Ukraine.

The Ukrainian leader said the conversation was important and useful. He also thanked the United States for its assistance.
