Trump believes Crimea is completely lost for Ukraine

US President Donald Trump has said that Ukraine has no chance of either returning the Russian-occupied Crimea or becoming a NATO member. He said this in an interview with Fox News, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports
The American leader recalled that Russia seized the Ukrainian peninsula in 2014, calling it “a deal that looked very stupid” for the then US administration led by Barack Obama.
“Russia took Crimea from Ukraine like candy from a child. They just went in, deployed submarines and that was it. It happened without firing a single shot,” Trump said.
He also added that Kyiv’s demands to return Crimea and join NATO are “impossible.”
European leaders insist on guarantees
Despite Trump’s skeptical statements, at a meeting in Washington on August 18, European leaders emphasized the need to provide Ukraine with effective security guarantees. In particular, they discussed a model similar to Article 5 of the NATO Charter, which provides for collective defense in the event of an attack.
Occupation of Crimea
Russia occupied Crimea in March 2014 after blocking Ukrainian military units and holding a so-called “referendum.” Ukraine, like most countries in the world, does not recognize the illegal annexation.
on February 24, 2022, Russia launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine, using the territory of Crimea as one of its footholds.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has repeatedly emphasized that Ukraine will never legally recognize Russia’s occupation of any of its territory.
