Trump opposes granting US citizenship by birthright

The administration of US President Donald Trump has asked the Supreme Court to consider the constitutionality of the President’s decree aimed at ending the practice of granting birthright citizenship.

This was reported by CNN, citing a copy of the appeal, which has not yet been registered with the court, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.

Solicitor General Dean John Sauer emphasized in the appeal that the court’s decision annulled a policy of paramount importance to the US president and his administration.

In his opinion, the court’s decision grants the privilege of U.S. citizenship to hundreds of thousands of people “who have no right to it.”

In February of this year, a court in the US state of Maryland indefinitely blocked Trump’s executive order restricting birthright citizenship. District Judge Debra Boardman said that the president’s order contradicts the wording of the 14th Amendment to the US Constitution, contradicting 125 years of precedent established by the Supreme Court.
