US President Donald Trump has said that negotiations to end the war in Ukraine are “getting closer to some kind of result.” At the same time, he expressed the opinion that Kyiv should act faster. Trump made this statement at an event in the Oval Office, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports citing DW.
The American leader also said that “every time the Ukrainians take too long, Russia changes its mind.” This is how he answered a question about the talks between US and Russian representatives, which are expected to continue next weekend.
According to the White House, special representatives of the US president, Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, are planning to meet with the Russian delegation in Miami. These contacts are seen as part of further attempts to reach an agreement between Russia and Ukraine to end the war.
Contacts with Kyiv and Moscow’s position
Last Sunday and Monday, Vitkoff and Kushner held talks with the Ukrainian delegation in Berlin. According to the American representatives, after these talks, they had the impression that the parties were not that far from a possible agreement.
At the same time, the key issue related to Russia’s demand to establish control over a part of Ukrainian territory remains unresolved.
On Thursday, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that Moscow was preparing for contacts with Washington to understand how much the American plan for a Ukrainian settlement had changed after talks involving European countries and the Ukrainian authorities.
