US President Donald Trump has announced that Washington and Beijing have signed a trade agreement. This is reported by "Komersant Ukrainian" with reference to Financial Time.

“We just signed an agreement with China yesterday,” Trump said.

He did not provide any details.

He also clarified that the US intends to conclude a similar trade agreement with India in the near future.

“There may be a deal with India. A very big one. We will open India to American business. As part of the China deal, we are starting to open up China,” Trump said.

At the same time, Trump noted that Washington would not necessarily reach agreements with all countries. Some countries will simply be sent a message that “now you pay 25-45% duties.”

A White House spokesman said the U.S. and China were “seeking additional understanding of the framework for implementing the Geneva agreement,” referring to the trade talks the countries held in May when they first agreed to a truce.

Two people familiar with the situation said that Washington and Beijing likely put in writing what had been previously discussed but not included in the official document. According to the source, the agreement concerns “how we can accelerate the supply of rare earth metals to the United States again.”

The agreement in Geneva included a significant reduction in duties for 90 days while the parties tried to work out a comprehensive trade deal. However, the deal stalled due to disagreements over Chinese rare earth metal exports and US export controls.
