In a conversation with European politicians, US President Donald Trump expressed his readiness to provide Ukraine with security guarantees outside of NATO, suggesting that Russia would not oppose such an initiative.
Bloomberg reports this with reference to knowledgeable sources, "Komersant Ukrainian".
According to the agency, Trump noted that Russian dictator Vladimir Putin might support this option. The idea involves the creation of a mechanism to protect Ukraine separate from the North Atlantic Alliance.
“Trump told European leaders that he is ready to contribute to providing security guarantees to Ukraine if it is not linked to NATO. The president suggested that Putin would not be opposed to this,” the newspaper reports.
The Wall Street Journal also wrote that Trump told European leaders that he was ready to provide security guarantees for Ukraine.
