US President Donald Trump intends to host the President of Azerbaijan and the Prime Minister of Armenia at the White House. According toThe Washington Post, citing two senior administration officials, the purpose of the meeting is to promote a peace agreement between the countries, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports .

The two leaders are expected to arrive in Washington on August 8. One of the officials with whom the publication spoke suggested that the parties could announce an agreement as early as Friday during talks with Trump. These plans have not yet been officially announced.

Last month, Armenia and Azerbaijan already held peace talks in the UAE, but despite having an agreed draft agreement, they failed to sign it.

The historical confrontation between Armenia and Azerbaijan has been going on for over a hundred years. Both countries claim Nagorno-Karabakh, a region that has been the center of several wars. After the armed conflict of 1991-1993, Karabakh was effectively controlled by Armenia, although it remained formally part of Azerbaijan.

In September 2023, Azerbaijan conducted a military operation that resulted in the full regaining of control over the region. On January 1, 2024, the self-proclaimed Nagorno-Karabakh Republic officially ceased to exist. And on March 13, 2025, the parties confirmed the agreement on the text of the peace agreement, but the document has not been signed since then.
