Trump halts all financial aid to Colombia

United States President Donald Trump has suspended all financial assistance to Colombia and accused the country’s leader, Gustavo Petro, of condoning mass drug production.

He wrote about this on his page on Truth Social, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.

“This has become the largest business in Colombia, and Petro is not taking any measures to stop it, despite large payments and subsidies from the United States. From now on, these payments … will no longer be provided to Colombia,” the American leader said.

He added that banned substances produced in Colombia are subsequently shipped to the United States, leading to “destruction and chaos.” In this regard, Trump called on Petro to stop the work of drug cartels in the country, otherwise “the United States will close them down itself, and it will not be done peacefully.”

This is not the first time the US president has clashed with Petro during his second term. In the first days after Trump’s inauguration, the Colombian leader turned back two American planes carrying migrants from the republic, and Trump said that the actions of the Colombian authorities threatened the national and public security of the United States and imposed sanctions and duties of 25% on all goods from the country. Immediately afterward, Petro agreed to accept the deportation flights.
