Prices for Easter cakes in the capital: how much should Easter bread cost?

Every year, the prices of products for the Easter basket increase, as does the cost of Easter cakes. This year, the capital’s confectioneries offer a variety of Easter bread options: traditional Easter cakes, cheese Easter cupcakes, as well as Italian panettone and colombo. Among the most popular holiday baked goods this year are Easter cakes with various cream fillings: pistachio, chocolate, strawberry and even Dubai chocolate-flavored fillings, where in addition to pistachio paste, toasted kataifi dough is also used, which adds a characteristic crunch to the filling.

In recent years, Italian Christmas bread, which is also quite common at Easter, and Italian Easter bread, which is an analogue of two famous Italian Christmas cakes, panelone and pandoro, called Easter dove or colomba, have also gained popularity in Ukraine. However, unlike other types of Easter pastries, colomba can be found mainly on the shelves of Ukrainian premium supermarkets.

Here is a selection of the most interesting Easter cake options in Kyiv confectioneries and supermarkets

silpo’s“Verkhivka” at a discounted price of UAH 44.99. This year, Silpo supermarket chain has fulfilled the dream of many people who like to eat only the tops of Easter cakes. They introduced a small Easter cake weighing 125 grams, almost completely covered with protein glaze and traditional Easter powder.

“Three Milk and Victoria’s secret Easter cakes from the Milk bar confectionery chain cost UAH 1105 and UAH 1295 respectively. Easter cake “Three Milks” is an adaptation of one of the most popular desserts in this establishment. This Easter cake is filled with condensed milk cream, boiled condensed milk and cream. The Victoria’s secret Easter cake, on the other hand, has a filling of white chocolate strawberry mousse and cream. Both Easter cakes from this confectionery have a rather laconic and restrained design, in particular, they are decorated with a chocolate rabbit figure and have festive branded packaging.

“Namelaka’sStrawberry and PistachioEaster cakes cost UAH 1650 each. One of Kyiv’s most popular confectioneries, Namelaka, also offers a fairly wide range of Easter pastries. However, the most popular items are the Namelaka Strawberry Easter cake, which contains a liquid filling of strawberry cream, strawberries and white chocolate ganache, and the Pistachio Easter cake, made of fluffy dough made with pistachio paste and filled with delicate pistachio ganache.

Colombo Fiasconaro in collaboration with Dolce & Gabbana, which costs 4049 UAH. This is a traditional Italian Easter pastry sold in a branded package and metal box. In addition to the chocolate colombo itself, covered with wild strawberry jam and chocolate icing, this box also contains chocolate paste and a spatula for it.

Another of the premium Italian clothing and accessories brands has produced traditional Italian holiday pastries that have already caught on with many Ukrainians. Stefano Ricci’s panettone is sold in a rather elegant metal package decorated with a decorative ribbon and a wax stamp with the brand’s logo. The premium panettone dough is made with raisins and candied orange and lemon peel.
