Food prices in Ukraine have risen by 17.4% over the past year, with eggs and fruit being the most affected. This is evidenced by data from the State Statistics Service, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports
In particular, egg prices increased by 50.9% over the year (September 2025/September 2024). Fruits went up by 30.4%.
The cost of sunflower oil increased by 28.1% over the year, and the cost of butter by 23.3%.
Meat and meat products went up quite significantly – by 24.8%. Fish and fish products – by 15.6%.
The price of milk increased by 17.1% and pasta by 9.2%.
It is worth noting that there are some products that have fallen in price. These are vegetables and sugar – by 16% and 8.1% respectively.
At the same time, alcoholic beverages went up by 6.6% over the year, and tobacco products – by 29.3%.
Economist Oleh Pendzin attributes the sharp rise in fruit prices to a poor harvest, and in eggs to the cost of feed.
“The cost of fruit has risen due to the poor harvest. Because of the April frosts that we had this year. As for the cost of eggs, they have indeed risen by 50% over the year. But over the past month, they have even fallen slightly in price. It should be understood that 70% of the cost of an egg is made up of feed. Feed is corn. Corn is still being harvested. If we end up with a good harvest, we will have cheap corn. And the growth in egg prices will slow down somewhat,” he explained.
In turn, economist Andriy Novak notes that the rise in food prices is due to a combination of economic factors and the effects of the war.
According to him, the market is affected by both production costs and logistical difficulties, infrastructure destruction and seasonal fluctuations, which is why food prices are rising faster than expected.
“Today, we are indeed experiencing a significant increase in prices for some food products. The fruit group, eggs, and we can add meat and dairy products. There are several reasons for this. The first reason is the direct consequences of intense military actions by Russia. They are destroying our logistics and have destroyed a large number of warehouses, including food warehouses. In addition, the weather conditions this year were not very favorable,” he said.

Novak also explained why alcohol prices rose by only 6.6%.
“For alcoholic beverages, as well as for tobacco products, we have price increases in waves, according to when excise taxes are raised. There was no increase in excise taxes during the year, so alcohol prices did not rise significantly,” he said.
Economist Oleksandr Okhrimenko emphasizes that prices are largely influenced by demand.
“Fruit prices have risen by 30% primarily because fruit producers are finally able to set a normal price. For a very long time, they had to sell the product at a big discount. Now that they have seen that there is demand and buyers, they have raised prices to compensate for their previous losses,” he explained.
As for eggs, this is a situational growth.
“We had a drop in egg prices, then an increase. Egg prices depend on the cost of feed. So do prices for meat and meat products, respectively,” Okhrimenko explained.
So, food prices in Ukraine continue to rise. This is due to several factors: the consequences of the war, unfavorable weather and climate conditions, reduced yields, and growing demand for certain product groups.
Experts predict that food prices will continue to rise, although the pace may gradually slow down.
