Prices have gone up: tomatoes are rapidly becoming more expensive in Ukraine
3 February 16:19
The reduction in the supply of greenhouse tomatoes on the domestic market of Ukraine over the past week has allowed sellers to once again raise the selling prices for available volumes of products, according to analysts at EastFruit, as reported by "Komersant Ukrainian".
While a week earlier, prices for these vegetables had risen only slightly, by the end of January, prices in this segment had increased by at least 15% over the last seven days.
Turkey is traditionally the main supplier of these products to the Ukrainian market at this time of year, but in recent weeks, supplies of greenhouse tomatoes from this country have continued to decline, while buyer activity has remained at the same level. At the same time, market operators reported an increase in prices for greenhouse vegetables in the producing country itself, which was due to seasonal factors.
According to the project’s daily monitoring data, these vegetables are currently offered for sale on the domestic market at a wholesale price range of 110-130 UAH/kg ($2.55-3.05/kg), which is at least 15% more expensive than at the end of last week, when wholesale prices for tomatoes ranged from $2.09 to $2.55/kg, depending on the quality and volume of the vegetable batches offered.
Market participants note that a more significant increase in prices in this segment could have a negative impact on purchasing activity, and wholesale companies with retail chains could reduce the volume of further purchases of greenhouse vegetables.
It should be noted that greenhouse tomatoes in Ukraine are currently sold at an average price that is 27% higher than at the beginning of February 2025. However, many market participants agree that this price situation in this segment is temporary. They do not rule out that tomato prices may stabilize in the near future once supplies of Turkish vegetables to the Ukrainian market normalize.
