Electricity and gas tariffs may rise in 2026 – NBU warns of a new round of inflation

The National Bank of Ukraine expects a gradual increase in utility tariffs for households, including electricity, gas, and heating, to begin in 2026.
This is stated in the NBU’s inflation report published on August 1, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.
Until the end of 2025, tariffs will remain stable due to the current moratorium, but next year they will be gradually brought to an economically justified level.
“In 2026, these tariffs will be gradually brought to their economically justified levels,” the report says.
The National Bank explains that this decision is due to the need to normalize the operation of Ukraine’ s energy system, which is under pressure as a result of the war and the prolonged containment of tariffs.
However, if prices rise sharply, it could trigger a new wave of inflation, as rising electricity and gas prices will automatically affect the cost of most goods and services.
The NBU also emphasizes that in this case, the state will have to significantly increase subsidies to support vulnerable groups of the population.
