Drones over Brussels Airport
Around 20:00 local time, security services reported the appearance of drones over the territory of the Brussels airport. To ensure the safety of passengers and crews, all flights to and from the airport were canceled or diverted.
Initially, the planes were expected to arrive at Liege Airport, but later the threat was detected there as well, so the flights were diverted to Maastricht (Netherlands) and Cologne (Germany).
Liege airport activates crisis center
According to Christian Delcourt, a spokesman for Liege Airport, an internal crisis center was activated in response to the threat.
“All Belgian airspace is closed,” Delcourt told reporters.
Law enforcement officers and specialists in countering unmanned systems are working on the ground. It is specified that civil aviation traffic has been suspended until the situation is checked.
Both airports reopened shortly after 21:00, and then closed again shortly before 22:00 after another drone was spotted.
Charleroi Airport was temporarily closed, but only for arrivals. This affected four Brussels Airlines flights and two Ryanair flights.

Not the first drone incident in Europe
This is not the first time that drones have paralyzed the work of major European airports.
On October 18, Munich Airport also temporarily suspended operations due to reports of unknown drones.
European aviation authorities emphasize that drone launches in no-fly zones pose a real threat to passenger aircraft and can lead to a disaster.
