The Kremlin rejects the idea of a truce for Christmas

The Russian side does not want a Christmas ceasefire to give Ukraine a break and prepare for the continuation of hostilities, as Moscow intends to stop the war and achieve its goals.
This was stated by the press secretary of the Russian dictator Dmitry Peskov during a briefing, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports, citing Russian propaganda media.
According to him, further developments will depend on whether Russia and Ukraine reach an agreement or not. Peskov added that Russia’s position on this issue is well known, consistent, transparent and understandable to both the Americans and the Ukrainian side.
“We want peace, we do not want a truce to give Ukraine a break and prepare for the continuation of the war,” the Kremlin spokesman said.
He noted that Russia wants to “stop this war, achieve its goals, secure its interests and create peace in Europe in the future,” though Pskov did not mention that it was Russia that started the war.
What preceded it
Yesterday in Berlin, German Chancellor Merz called on Russia to declare a Christmas truce. He expressed his belief that this could be the prologue to a permanent ceasefire.
“Perhaps the Russian leadership still has at least a drop of human dignity left, and it will leave people alone for Christmas. Now it is up to Russia to decide whether a ceasefire will be possible before Christmas,” said Mertz.
The proposal was supported by President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy, who emphasized that much in this matter depends on Russia’s political will.
