In Crimea, Russians shot down their own plane during a drone attack: what is known
17 October 09:19
During a nighttime drone attack on the temporarily occupied Crimea, Russian troops shot down their own plane. This was reported by the spokesman for the Ukrainian Navy Dmytro Pletenchuk on the air of the Apostrophe TV channel, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports
“We repelled the attacks of the Ukrainians in such a way that we were able to shoot down our own plane over Crimea. The fight continues. All information is being collected in Crimea,” Pletenchuk said.
On the night of October 17, drones attacked a number of facilities on the peninsula. The largest fire broke out in the village of Hvardiyske, Simferopol district, where the flames engulfed an oil depot belonging to the ATAN gas station chain.
According to the Crimean Wind Telegram channel, the first explosions occurred around 2:40 a.m., after which a large fire broke out.
According to Pletenchuk, for the Russians, the “result on the scoreboard” was extremely doubtful:
“Apparently, there will be even less fuel there [in Crimea – ed.] today, because the second oil depot has caught fire. And let’s hope that this work will continue.”
The oil depot is part of Kedr LLC, which owns the largest network of gas stations in Crimea – more than 100 stations and a fleet of fuel trucks. The strikes are expected to cause an even greater fuel shortage on the peninsula.
In addition to the oil depot, local Telegram channels report a possible hit on an ammunition depot located nearby.
Around 6:20 a.m., a series of new explosions occurred in Simferopol and the surrounding areas. The occupation authorities are traditionally silent.
