In Kryvyi Rih, UAH 1 million stolen during construction of shelters

In Kryvyi Rih, law enforcement officers exposed an organised group whose members “embezzled” more than UAH 1 million from the budget. This was reported by "Komersant Ukrainian" reports with reference to the Office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine.
According to the investigation, the head of the education department of the executive committee of the district council in Kryvyi Rih developed a criminal scheme to seize budget funds allocated for the repair of shelters in the city’s educational institutions. The group involved the director of a sports school, an accountant of the education department and three businessmen.
The offenders entered deliberately false information into documents regarding the cost of construction materials. Based on these documents, funds were transferred to the accounts of controlled companies. Subsequently, the money was distributed among the group members.
In total, the criminals caused damage to the city community in excess of UAH 1 million. During the searches, the SBU seized documents, money and cars from the suspects.
All six suspects have been chosen as a measure of restraint in the form of detention. The head and accountant of the Education Department have been suspended from their positions.
Meanwhile, 24 Ukrainian universities received UAH 40 million to repair shelters.
