In Kyiv, a foreigner is suspected of sexually abusing a 10-year-old boy: what is known

In Kyiv, law enforcement officers detained a 39-year-old Turkish citizen suspected of sexually abusing the 10-year-old son of his former girlfriend, reports "Komersant Ukrainian".
According to the capital’s prosecutor’s office, the man was exposed by accident during the investigation of another crime related to arson and theft.
How the crime was discovered
According to the investigation, a conflict arose between the suspect and his former partner. Out of jealousy, the man set fire to her rented apartment and stole her laptop.
During his arrest, the police seized his phones. It was during the inspection of one of them that law enforcement officers came across a video that recorded the sexual abuse of a child.
According to the prosecutor’s office, the video shows the suspect himself and a 10-year-old boy, the son of a woman with whom he had previously had a relationship.
What is known about the suspect
The prosecutor’s office notified the man of suspicion under three articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine:
- ч. 4 of Article 153 – sexual violence against a minor child;
- ч. 4 of Art. 185 – theft committed on an especially large scale or under martial law;
- ч. 2 of Art. 194 – intentional destruction or damage to property by arson.
The suspect is in custody and faces up to 10 years in prison.

The case is being investigated by police investigators under the supervision of the Kyiv City Prosecutor’s Office.
The prosecutor’s office emphasizes that the child is being provided with psychological and legal assistance, and the video footage has become key evidence in the case.
The name of the suspect and the exact address of the incident are not disclosed in the interests of the investigation and to protect the child.
What the law says
According to Ukrainian law, sexual violence against minors is a particularly serious crime. In case of proof of guilt, the punishment cannot be suspended.
