A director of a metal processing plant in Kyiv has been charged with air pollution

In Kyiv, law enforcement officials have charged the director of a private metal processing company in the Podilskyi district.
This was reported by the Kyiv City Prosecutor’s Office and the National Police of Ukraine, according to "Komersant Ukrainian".
The company’s director is suspected of polluting the air with hazardous substances, as well as of abuse of authority, which led to serious consequences.
Exceeding emission limits
According to the investigation, the ADM enterprise exceeded the permissible level of harmful emissions into the air.
Specifically:
- the level of carbon monoxide exceeded the norm by more than 10 times;
- the concentration of sulfur dioxide was nearly 20 times higher than the permissible limit.
The prosecutor’s office stated that this posed a danger to the environment and human health.
Complaints from residents
Residents of several districts in the capital have been complaining for several years about a pungent odor in the air.
These include the following neighborhoods:
- Syrets
- Kurenivka
- Nyvky
- Zamkovysche
- Pochaina
- Obolon
- Lukyanivka
These complaints served as the basis for inspections of the company’s operations.
Losses and Investigation
According to the investigation, the company’s activities caused losses to the state amounting to nearly 2.5 million hryvnias.
Despite violations of environmental standards, the company’s management did not take measures to address them and continued operations.
