Kyiv Metro wants to charge more than UAH 30 for travel

A reasonable fare for travel in the Kyiv metro is at least UAH 30, according to its head Viktor Braginsky. He said this in an interview with Lb.ua, reports .
According to him, the need to increase the tariff is due to the rise in electricity prices.
“The last time the tariff increased was in 2018. I have already given an example that in 2018 we had electricity costs of UAH 466 million, although we are the first utility company to work directly with the energy market, buying electricity at the state tariff, i.e. at the lowest prices, without intermediaries. In 2024, we have to pay UAH 1.6 billion. Therefore, the reasonable tariff today is more than UAH 30,”
– said the head of the Kyiv metro.
At the same time, Braginsky reminded that prices will not rise for the time being, as Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko has banned raising fares during the war.
As a reminder, on 8 December last year, 6 metro stations of the Blue Line were closed in Kyiv due to their emergency condition: “Demiivska, Holosiivska, Vasylkivska, Vystavochny Tsentr, Hippodrome and Teremky. Cracks and flooding appeared in the tunnels, making it impossible to continue operating the stations without endangering passenger safety. The city authorities claim that the repair of the tunnels will take approximately six months.
Kyiv residents also report regular flooding of other stations on the blue line, including Kontraktova Ploshcha, Olimpiyska, and Obolon, but the metro claims that all these processes are within normal limits and that passengers are not in danger.
Meanwhile, yesterday a video was posted online of a subway car that was covered in snow while travelling on the surface.
The utility company did not comment on the video, apparently believing that such conditions are quite normal and comparable to the desired fares of more than UAH 30. Currently, Kyiv residents and visitors pay UAH 8 for a subway ride.
