NATO launches large-scale military exercises

On Monday, 4 March, NATO launched military exercises in Finland, Norway and Sweden that will last almost two weeks. The exercises will involve 20,000 soldiers from 13 NATO countries, Kommersant Ukrainian reports
with reference to the Associated Press.
Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, Spain, Sweden, Sweden, the United Kingdom, the United States and the United States are taking part in the exercise. This is the first exercise of the Finnish Armed Forces since Finland joined NATO. Thus, 4,000 Finnish soldiers will take part in the exercise, which is the largest participation of a newcomer in history. Sweden will participate as a future member of the Alliance.
The current exercises are taking place in the northern regions of the three countries and are called Northern Response 2. Approximately half of the troops will train on the ground. According to the Norwegian military, the rest will train at sea with more than 50 submarines, frigates, corvettes, aircraft carriers and various amphibious ships, as well as in the air with more than 100 fighter jets, transport aircraft, maritime surveillance aircraft and helicopters.
“The High North is an important and strategically located area for NATO,” and Nordic Response 2024 “enhances the Nordic countries’ readiness and ability to conduct large-scale joint operations in challenging weather and climate conditions,” the NATO website says,

Sweden and Finland applied to join NATO in May 2022, following Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
