Second Ukrainian basketball player attacked with a knife dies in Germany

18-year-old Ukrainian basketball player Artem Kozachenko, who was previously attacked with a knife in the German city of Oberhausen along with 17-year-old Vladimir Yermakov, died in hospital from his injuries. The ART Giants club, for which Kozachenko played, announced this on Instagram, reports

It is known that after the attack, 17-year-old Yermakov died immediately from his injuries, and Kozachenko was taken to hospital in serious condition.

According to the club, Kozachenko died of serious injuries on Tuesday, 20 February.

“Since the brutal attack in Oberhausen, Artem has been in intensive care at the hospital. Unfortunately, over the past few days, his condition has deteriorated so sharply that doctors could do nothing for him,”

– the statement reads.

At the same time, the Ukrainian Basketball Federation also announced the death of the 18-year-old Ukrainian and expressed condolences to the family.

The day before, two Ukrainian basketball players from the ART Giants Düsseldorf youth team were attacked by eight people of Arab appearance in Düsseldorf. Volodymyr Yermakov, a 17-year-old Ukrainian basketball player and member of the Ukrainian youth national team, died of stab wounds. His teammate Artem Kozachenko was taken to intensive care. The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry later reported that German police had detained the attacker.
