A former employee of the Ukrainian embassy in Poland is suspected of facilitating the illegal transportation of a Russian citizen across the state border of Ukraine by issuing her a Ukrainian passport. This was reported by "Komersant Ukrainian" with reference to the Office of the Prosecutor General.

According to the Prosecutor General’s Office, the former second secretary of the Embassy of Ukraine in the Republic of Poland was notified of the suspicion.

The investigation is being carried out in cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The ex-diplomat’s actions are classified under Part 2 of Article 332 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – illegal transportation of persons across the state border committed by an official.

How an ex-diplomat helped a Russian woman obtain a Ukrainian passport

According to the investigation, in May 2022, while in office, the diplomat abused his official position to obtain Ukrainian citizenship for a Russian native.

The woman had no grounds for a simplified procedure for acquiring Ukrainian citizenship, but through manipulation of documents she received a passport of a citizen of Ukraine for traveling abroad.

The official deliberately ignored the applicant’s lack of permanent residence status in Poland, certified documents that did not meet the requirements of the law, and entered false information into the Unified State Demographic Register.

This allowed him to produce a fictitious Ukrainian passport, which the Russian citizen used to illegally enter and leave Ukraine on several occasions in 2023.

The issue of choosing a type of detention for the suspect is currently being decided.

The pre-trial investigation in this case is being conducted by the Main Investigation Department of the National Police of Ukraine with the operational support of the Security Service of Ukraine.
