147 foreigners detained in Poland during large-scale special operation: what is the reason?

In Poland, during a large-scale special operation, law enforcement officers detained 147 foreigners who were in the country illegally. Among them were 91 Ukrainian citizens.

This was reported by the Polish Ministry of Internal Affairs and Administration, the Polish Border Guard, and the Polish Police, according to "Komersant Ukrainian".

What is known about the special operation

The operation took place throughout the country and was aimed at finding individuals who were hiding from law enforcement agencies or were in Poland without legal grounds.

Almost 26,000 officers took part in the operation, conducting about 1,800 checks on the legality of foreigners’ stay.

In total, law enforcement officers detained 1,944 people who were wanted on arrest warrants or court orders.
Among them were 147 foreigners wanted by the Polish authorities.

Who was among those detained

According to police data, among the foreigners were:

  • 91 Ukrainians
  • 14 Georgian citizens
  • 8 citizens of Belarus
  • 3 Moldovan citizens
  • 2 Russian citizens
  • 29 people from other countries

In nearly 110 cases, the border service initiated procedures that could oblige foreigners to leave Poland due to illegal residence.

More than 20 cases have been opened on suspicion that the detainees may pose a threat to national security.

What the Ukrainian Embassy says

The Ukrainian Embassy in Poland has clarified that administrative proceedings have been initiated against 91 Ukrainian citizens to compel them to return.

Diplomats emphasize that
this does not mean immediate deportation.

The procedure may take weeks or even months, and citizens have the right to

  • appeal the decision,
  • seek legal assistance.

The embassy has stated that it is in contact with Polish law enforcement agencies and is investigating the circumstances of the cases.

Polish law enforcement agencies conduct such raids on a regular basis.

According to police data, during three previous nationwide operations in 2025, 4,766 people were detained, including 515 foreigners.
