Dozens of people injured in earthquake in Turkey

Turkish Interior Minister Ali Erlikaya said that 29 people were injured in the earthquake in Balikesir province.

His words were reported by NTV, "Komersant Ukrainian" informs.

According to the Interior Minister, one person could not be rescued.

The mayor of Syndyrga, Serkan Sak, said that at least 10 buildings collapsed in the town. Rescue operations are underway, and several people are trapped under the rubble. At the same time, four people were rescued, Sak said.

The earthquake in Turkey with a magnitude of 6.1 was recorded at 19:55. The duration of the tremors was about 20-30 seconds. Chandeliers and furniture swayed in apartments. Some locals ran outside. Apps on smartphones warned of the tremors just a few seconds before they started.

The Disaster Management Authority (AFAD) clarified that the epicenter of the earthquake was located near the city of Sindirgi in Balikesir province. The center was located at a depth of 11 km. The earthquake was followed by at least 20 aftershocks, five of which were above magnitude 4.
