On January 1, 2026, stricter rules for entering the Clean Transport Zone came into force in Warsaw. The changes will primarily affect owners of old cars, while the boundaries of the zone will remain unchanged – they will continue to run along Primasza Millennia Alley, Al. Jerusalem, Lazenkivska highway, United States Avenue, Vyatrachna Street, and along the Northern Line railroad tracks to Primas Millennium Avenue.
This was reported by "Komersant Ukrainian" with reference to Polskie Radio.
From the beginning of 2026, an expanded list of vehicles prohibited from entering the zone will be in effect. The use of gasoline cars manufactured before 2000 or not protected by the Euro 3 standard, as well as diesel cars manufactured before 2009 or those that do not meet the Euro 5 standard, is limited. Thus, the maximum age of gasoline-powered cars is 26 years, and 17 years for diesel cars.
There are exceptions for residents of the capital. The new rules will not affect those Warsaw residents who pay taxes in the city and have registered their own cars before January 1, 2024, as well as people who have reached the age of 70 by the end of 2023. The benefits are also preserved for people with disabilities and certain categories of employees. Drivers who do not have privileges on inappropriate vehicles will be able to enter the city no more than four times a year.
Illegal entry into the clean transport zone is punishable by a fine of up to PLN 500 (EUR 120). Compliance with the rules will be monitored by the city guard based on data from the Central Register of Vehicles and Drivers.
The next stage of tightening the requirements is scheduled for the end of 2027. From January 2028, the new restrictions will also apply to Warsaw residents who pay taxes in the capital. From that moment on, diesel cars older than 13 years and gasoline cars older than 22 years will not be allowed to enter the zone.
In fact, this means a ban on the entry of gasoline cars manufactured before 2005 or not meeting the Euro 4 standard, as well as diesel cars manufactured before 2014 or not meeting the Euro 6 standard.
