In October, the state budget received a record amount from the issue of government bonds

In October 2024, the Ministry of Finance of Ukraine raised a record amount from the issue of government bonds – UAH 106.9 billion in equivalent: uAH 83.4 billion and USD 569 million. Military bonds amounted to almost UAH 82.8 billion of the total amount of government bonds issued in October 2024. This was reported by the Ministry of Finance of Ukraine, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.
In total, in 10 months of 2024, the state budget received UAH 497.8 billion in equivalent through the issuance of domestic government bonds. During the martial law period, this amounted to more than UAH 1.3 trillion in equivalent.
The proceeds from the sale of domestic government bonds are used to meet the financial needs of the state under martial law, including the expenditures of the security and defense sector.
What is the current yield on domestic government bonds?
In October, the weighted average yield on hryvnia-denominated domestic government bonds was 15.6%, while the yield on dollar-denominated bonds was 4.62%.
Who are the largest buyers of domestic government bonds?
As of November 1, there were over UAH 1.76 trillion worth of domestic government bonds in circulation. The largest share is held by commercial banks (46.7%) and the NBU (38.5%). The share of legal entities and individuals is 8.4% and 4.0%, respectively. The share of non-residents is 1.3%, insurance companies – 1.1%, and territorial communities – 0.04%.
How to buy domestic government bonds
First, it can be done at the primary dealers of the Ministry of Finance. These are the following banks: Ukrgasbank, Oschadbank, Raiffeisen Bank, OTP Bank, Citibank, Ukreximbank, FUIB, Privatbank, SENS BANK, CREDOBANK, and Pivdenny.
You can also contact licensed brokers. Among them are, for example, ICU Financial Group, Dregon Capital, Monobank, Tascombank, etc.
Buying military bonds
Military bonds can also be purchased from primary dealer banks and licensed brokers.
The nominal value of one bond is 1000 UAH/ 1000 USD/ 1000 EUR.
