The murder of linguist and former MP Iryna Farion could have been motivated by religious or ethnic hatred. First Deputy Head of the Security Service of Ukraine Serhiy Andriushchenko said this during a briefing, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports
Law enforcers are checking the suspect’s ties to Russian neo-Nazi groups.
“We are checking his involvement in the neo-Nazi movement, the centre of which is located in the aggressor country, his ties in Ukraine and the motives for committing this crime. This is either religious or national hatred,” Andriushchenko said.
Investigators are also considering the personal motive of the suspect in committing the crime.
Andriushchenko said that the investigation is looking into the connections of Farion’s alleged killer in Ukraine and abroad. In particular, they are checking the involvement of the special services of the aggressor country, Russia.
“A set of measures is being taken to investigate the involvement of this person. We are studying his connections both in Ukraine and abroad. One of the versions is the involvement of the special services of the aggressor country in the organisation of the crime,”
– said the SBU First Deputy Head.
He added that other crimes on the territory of Ukraine are being considered, in which the detainee may be involved.
