Russia’s strike on Kryvyi Rih: Ukraine initiated an urgent meeting of the UN Security Council

8 April 2025 06:19

Ukraine has initiated an urgent meeting of the UN Security Council and a special meeting of the OSCE Permanent Council because of Russia’s missile attack on Kryvyi Rih on April 4. Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiga announced this on the social network X, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports

According to Sybiga, nine children were killed in Russia’s ballistic missile strike on Kryvyi Rih last week, the largest number of Ukrainian children killed in a single attack since 2022.

The minister emphasized that Russia struck playgrounds in a regular residential area with a cluster missile to maximize casualties.

“Ukraine has initiated an urgent meeting of the UN Security Council and a special meeting of the OSCE Permanent Council to draw attention to Russian crimes. Both meetings will take place tomorrow and will help to advance peace efforts and bring the perpetrators to justice,” the Foreign Minister said.

He noted that a strong international response to Russian atrocities is crucial.

“Such terror must never become the norm. We call for both strong condemnation and decisive action. Russia must stop its terror against Ukrainian children and civilians, respond to the U.S. proposal for a complete ceasefire, which Ukraine has accepted, and end the war,” Sibiga emphasized.

On April 4, Russia fired a ballistic missile into a residential area of Kryvyi Rih, killing 19 people, 9 of whom were children. On the night of April 6, Russians fired ballistic missiles at Ukraine, one of which landed in Kyiv, leaving one dead. These attacks take place against the backdrop of Russia’s “peaceful” talks with the United States and an apparent warming in relations between the two.
