The Ukrainian Armed Forces have likely received the latest American Tempest anti-aircraft missile system from V2X for testing. It can be identified in one of the videos released by the Air Command “Center” in its New Year’s greeting.
This was reported by Defense Express, according to "Komersant Ukrainian".
The American Tempest air defense missile system was first presented at a weapons exhibition in October 2025.
Since this is a completely new development, the publication’s analysts suggested that the Air Force could have received a limited number of prototypes for testing to further improve this type of weapon.
Open sources indicate that V2X’s development exists in two versions: on a trailer for protecting stationary objects, and in a mobile version based on inexpensive COTS buggies. The latter can be used to strengthen mobile fire teams as a drone hunter.
However, the Tempest anti-aircraft missile system uses AGM-114L Longbow missiles to engage targets, each of which can cost up to $100,000. This is quite an expensive solution for intercepting Shahed drones.
However, with the Russians ramping up their production of drones, various options have to be used to destroy them.
