Ukraine receives another tranche from the IMF

Ukraine has received $880 million from the IMF as the third tranche of financial support under the EFF Extended Fund Facility programme. This was announced by the Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal, Komersant ukrainskyi https://www.komersant.info/ reports.

According to the Prime Minister, the funds will help cover priority budget expenditures and maintain macrofinancial stability.

Shmyhal added that Ukraine continues to successfully fulfil its obligations to its partners. The government is already preparing for the next review of the programme.

IMF loan programme

Ukraine agreed with the IMF on a new four-year loan programme worth USD 15.6 billion in March 2023. It is designed in two phases. The first phase, which will last 12-18 months, is aimed at ensuring fiscal, price and financial stability. The second stage involves more in-depth measures aimed at macroeconomic stability, recovery and reconstruction of the country, and economic growth. At all stages, Ukraine should continue reforms, such as anti-corruption and governance reforms, and refrain from tax cuts.

In particular, as part of the Memorandum with the IMF, Ukraine plans to sell two state-owned banks and increase utility tariffs.
